Seemann's Literary Annual Report and Christmas Catalogue for 1913 / Hesses Classics Editions News 1913
Rare Christmas publisher's catalogue from 1913, 43rd year of the Seemann series, distributed by the historic bookshop F.H. Schimpff in Trieste in Piazza della Borsa. The cover features a refined Jugendstil illustration signed Seuber: a female angel with feathered wings, dressed in the fashion of the time, skiing while carrying a pile of books — typical advertising iconography of pre-war German publishing. Includes a promotional insert for Hesses Klassiker-Ausgaben with elegant decorative border and Goethian silhouette. Significant document of the lively German-language book culture in Habsburg Trieste on the eve of the Great War, when the city was the main port of the Empire and a crossroads of Central European publishing commerce. Condition of use with defects to the cover, but the Art Nouveau illustration and Triestine provenance confer collecting interest.
