Salvatore Quasimodo, Poems, Swedish translation by Anders Österling, Casa Editrice Italica, Stockholm-Rome, [1958]. Volume I of the 'Italian Poetry Series' directed by Giacomo Oreglia, published under the auspices of the Italian Institute of Culture 'C.M. Lerici'. Copy of particular value for the presence of double autograph signature: that of Quasimodo affixed to his own name printed on the title page and that of Österling below the mention of the translator. Anders Österling (1884-1981), Swedish poet and critic, was permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy from 1941 to 1964 and a determining figure in the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Quasimodo in 1959, the year following this publication. Original publisher's wrappers with wear to edges; interior in good condition. Allegorical woodcut at colophon. Bibliographic document of significance for the history of the reception of Italian hermetic poetry in Scandinavia.
