Ligabue. From the Clay of the Po to the Work of Art

Rare monographic catalogue dedicated to the sculptural work of Antonio Ligabue (1899-1965), the most celebrated Italian naïf painter of the twentieth century, known for his tormented self-portraits and scenes of ferocious animals. This volume, curated by Sergio Negri for the Studio d'arte Nerone of Gualtieri—the town on the banks of the Po where Ligabue lived and worked—documents a lesser-known aspect of his production: terracotta sculptures and lost-wax bronze castings. Declared print run of 2000 copies, of which 500 out of commerce. Contains critical essays, a 'Letter to Ligabue' by Sergio Terzi known as Nerone, and a technical study on lost-wax casting. Illustrated with photographs of the Po floodplains by Giorgio Alberini. Publisher's binding in brown cloth with gold impressions and photographic reproduction of a terracotta bust. Essential document for the complete study of the Gualtieri artist.
