The "Fauves"
THE "FAUVES". Edited by Garibaldo Marussi. Venice, Edizioni del Cavallino, 1950. 4to, illustrated editorial paperback with color reproduction of 'The Open Window' by Henri Matisse. First edition of this important study on the Fauvist movement, published by the prestigious Venetian publishing house founded by Carlo Cardazzo. The volume, printed in Milan by Giampiero Giani on 25 May 1950, represents one of the first Italian contributions to the historiography of Fauvism in the postwar period. Copy in good general condition with the characteristic patina of time on the cover and slight marginal yellowing, spine and hinges intact. Edizioni del Cavallino were among the most refined art publishers of the twentieth-century Italian publishing world, with a limited and carefully curated production that today is the subject of specialized collecting.
