Sonia Delaunay
Rare catalogue of the solo exhibition of Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979) held at the Städtisches Kunsthaus in Bielefeld in autumn 1958, one of the first major German retrospectives dedicated to the pioneer of Orphism. The cover, designed by the artist herself, presents her iconic geometric forms—black square with white window, red and blue semicircles, green circle—on cream background, constituting in itself a significant graphic work within the Delaunay corpus. The catalogue documents the artist's Parisian activity with photographs by Florence Henri, Maywald and other avant-garde photographers. Copy in good general condition with normal patina of use consistent with age. Essential document for the study of the reception of French abstract art in postwar Germany.
