BRETON, André. Second Manifeste du Surréalisme

BRETON, André. Second Manifesto of Surrealism. Paris: Éditions Kra, 1930. First book edition of this seminal text of the Surrealist movement, printed on June 25, 1930, at the Coulouma printing works in Argenteuil. Original blue half-cloth binding with covers lined with paper decorated with abstract blue and red motifs, typical of Kra editions of the period. Spine with title and author’s name embossed in gold. Copy in generally good condition with signs of wear on the spine, particularly visible at the head and foot. The Second Manifesto represents the theoretical re-founding of Surrealism following the splits of 1929, including the famous break with Bataille, Desnos, and other dissidents. An essential document for any collection dedicated to the historical avant-garde movements of the twentieth century.
