Roman - Bimonthly Review
ROMAN, Bimonthly Review, no. 3, June 1951. Saint-Paul (Alpes-Maritimes), Roman Editions. 8vo, publisher's wrappers with color cover designed by Henri Matisse. Important avant-garde literary journal directed by Pierre de Lescure and Célia Bertin, published in the heart of the Côte d'Azur frequented by artists. This issue presents a notable table of contents: Elio Vittorini on Franco Lucentini, an unpublished story by Lucentini, essays by Henry Green and Alan Ross, an analysis by Claus Pack on Joyce and Picasso, and a precious fragment from James Joyce's Finnegans Wake. The original cover by Matisse, with its characteristic magenta and ochre diagonal bands and gestural lettering of the title, represents a significant example of the fauve master's graphic work in the 1950s. Copy in good general condition with normal wear from use.
