Peintures et Dessins
MICHAUX, Henri. Peintures et Dessins. Paris, Les Éditions du Point du Jour, 1946. First edition of this fundamental catalogue of the pictorial work of Michaux, Belgian poet and artist naturalized French, central figure of Surrealism and precursor of informal art. Copy no. 333 of the edition of 900 copies on fine Rives B.F.K. paper. Elegant publisher's binding in black moiré cloth with characteristic calligraphic title in red by the author, spine in black morocco with label and titles in gold, preserved in the original publisher's slipcase. The work documents Michaux's graphic production of the Thirties and Forties, a crucial period in which the artist developed his visual language characterized by anthropomorphic figures and gestural signs that anticipate action painting. Printed under the direction of René Bertelé with offset plates by the Michel brothers. Copy in good general condition, with slight signs of use consistent with age.
