Les Cris de la Fée
Rare surrealist portfolio containing sixteen collages by Max Bucaille, a prominent figure of the French surrealist movement. Published in 1939 by Guy Lévis Mano (GLM), the legendary publisher of the Parisian avant-garde who printed Éluard, Char, Michaux and the major surrealist poets from his workshop at 6 rue Huyghens. Bucaille, a self-taught artist discovered by André Breton, developed a technique of dreamlike collage that combined Victorian engravings with fantastic elements, creating disturbing visual universes. This publication, which appeared on the eve of the Second World War, represents an essential document of late-1930s surrealist production. Editorial cover in ivory laid paper, elegant typography with wavy ornaments characteristic of GLM editions. Copy in generally good condition, with the natural patina of time. Limited edition, now rare on the market.
