Cesetti and the Horses
Giuseppe Cesetti, Cesetti e i Cavalli. Venice, Edizione del Cavallino, November 1941. First and only edition of this refined artist's book dedicated to the equestrian theme, printed in only 400 numbered copies by the Carlo Ferrari Printing Works for Carlo Cardazzo. Copy no. 5, among the very first of the edition. Illustrated publisher's wrappers with the characteristic drawing of a rearing horse by the Tuscan artist. Cesetti (1902-1990), painter of the Roman School close to Mafai and Scipione, was celebrated for his horses with expressionist brushwork. Carlo Cardazzo, founder of the legendary Galleria del Cavallino in Venice in 1942, was among the most important Italian gallerists of the post-war period, promoter of Fontana, Tancredi and Spatialism. This publication represents one of the first editorial initiatives of the Cavallino, preceding the opening of the gallery. Copy in good general condition with normal patina of age.
