Capogrossi - Six Colour Plates
CAPOGROSSI - SIX COLOUR PLATES. Edizioni del Cavallino, Venice, 1954. First edition of the prestigious 'Collezione Arte' series directed by Carlo Cardazzo, a central figure in the promotion of post-war Italian contemporary art. Editorial portfolio in orange cardboard with original artist illustration on the cover, containing six colour plates documenting the evolution of Capogrossi's celebrated sign-based language, characterized by iconic comb and fork-like forms. Printed by Tipografia Giani of Milan. Giuseppe Capogrossi (Rome 1900-1972), co-founder of the Roman Group with Cagli and Cavalli, turned to abstraction in 1949 developing a unique visual alphabet that made him a protagonist of the Spatial Movement. In 1954, the year of this publication, he was invited with a cyclical exhibition to the XXVII Venice Biennale. A publication sought after by collectors of Italian artist books and documentation on the Spatialist movement.
